Meet Your Instructor

Ed Lyon

Ed Lyon, a champion of public gardens, is the director of Reiman Gardens at Iowa State University. He has lead the Allen Centennial Gardens at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Olbrich Botanical Gardens, and Rotary Botanical Gardens in director-level roles. He also gained experience at Chicago Botanic Gardens in Illinois as symposia and special programs coordinator.
 
Through Spellbound Garden Writing & Consultation, he writes, teaches, and speaks for both public and professional audiences across the Midwest. He’s a frequent expert contributor to gardening magazines and outlets. With an emphatic focus on a localized approach to gardening, he authored the book Growing the Midwestern Garden, which taps into his regional roots.
 
He cultivates his passion for the industry as an avid gardener with dirt under his fingernails.
